Equifax announced yesterday upwards of 143 Americans may have been affected by a data hack. In that hack personal information of tens of millions may have been compromised. It is likely there will be millions of legal claims against Equifax. At this point damages are hard to calculate because they haven't been fully realized.
It is also difficult to say the amount of damages that will eventually be sought in what should be numerous class action lawsuits.
Furthermore, there will be numerous third party claims as well because banks are likely liable as well. Or this is my supposition.
I can't recall a data breach where so many people were compromised other than a governmental breach. It appears to be the largest private company data breach. Suffice it to say, this isn't going away. It will be a boondoggle for lawyers.
